This is the entertaining and sometimes inspirational story of one morbidly obese 35-year-old Irishman who decides to walk 708 kilometres across the Camino de Santiago, an ancient Christian pilgrimage in Northern Spain one summer. On the journey, he faces a variety of physical and mental obstacles. The book is written in diary format, at turns poignant and funny in a light, pacey style.

I love to read stuff by people who write well, and I'd never recommend anything just to be nice. So you can believe me when I say that if you're looking for something funny and inspirational to read, I 100% recommend this book about how the author walked the Camino de Santiago for 33 days last summer. It'll make you laugh, it'll help you learn something new, and it'll make you want to try things you've never done before. Highly recommended.

This was a great read. Being a big girl I could really relate to the emotional pain of being obese. I loved the perseverance , the humor, the sadness and the pain.
Whew, tough not to toss his account in the trash but persevered because he did dig deep and walk his Way. I gritted my teeth and finished the book which, if nothing else, was my journey to not judge another’s journey.

And if the potential reader is gay, his account might well prove a useful read.

But gracious me, he seemed to have actually equip himself badly for suffering’s sake!
Hats off for author's determination and fortitude. This was a well written, often witty account of a man clearly out of his element, who with steadfastness and resolve accomplished a trek that is challenging to the extreme for even an in shape hiker, let alone a man that weighs almost 400 pounds and clearly out of shape. My hat was off to him. I could have done without his gay fantacies whenever seeing well built male shirtless pilgrims. Don't understand why he had the need to constantly reminded us he was gay. Found that to detract from an otherwise entertaining account of a truly remarkable achievement.
Well written book with lots of humor and encouragement and loved his endurance to finish the route, but did not like his remarks on Christianity which was a little disrespectful.
A great read...so entertaining and inspirational...! Great for someone who wants to stop talking about all the things they are going to do and actually do them. Or for someone who just wants to read a well written story!
This is a real insight to the Camino. How Connor against all the odds achieved his goal is an inspiration to us all. I will be doing the Camino myself soon and I will think of Connor with ever step.
Connor is really in your face, but I can not imagine walking the Camino de Santiago in the shape he was in. It's an inspiring story for those of us who aren't in physical shape and what we could do if we had the will.
